Gianforte Tours Whitehall High School CTE Programs

Meeting with students at Whitehall High School on Friday, March 4, 2022, Governor Greg Gianforte promoted the importance of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in empowering students with in-demand skills and providing a highly-skilled, highly-qualified workforce for Montana.

"Everybody wins when Montana schools, like Whitehall High School, offer personalized work-based learning paths for students to prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow," Gov. Gianforte said. "We will continue to promote CTE, trades education, and apprenticeship opportunities to empower Montanans with the skills needed to thrive in good-paying Montana jobs and build a stronger workforce."

During the visit, the governor met with students in an inclusion entrepreneurship class, which serves both students with disabilities and those without. The class is a part of the Montana Chamber of Commerce's Youth Entrepreneurs program. Students presented their business concepts to the governor and sought advice on growing their business.

Gov. Gianforte also toured the school's CTE shop facility, where students demonstrated how they use the school's operable lumber mill to create log-built furniture.

Promoting trades education and apprenticeship opportunities to empower Montanans with in-demand skills, create better-paying Montana jobs, and build a stronger workforce is a central element of the governor's Montana Comeback Plan.

"It's great to see the range of equipment, particularly in shop, that gives the students exposure to different methods of working materials, and having a mill - that is definitely unique - I've never seen a mill in another school. Which I think is fantastic because there are many career options available to students, not just ones that are at the end of a four-year degree," Gianforte told the Whitehall Ledger. "So helping students get exposure to all these various potential jobs is really critical in the education game."
