Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 5/11/2022

This week the Friends of the Library will be meeting on Thursday, May 12, at 5 PM at the Library. This great group of people helps in a variety of different areas concerning the different library projects. Besides helping staff with the day-to-day tasks of processing books, shelving, working the desk, etc. they also fundraise by running the book sale, writing grants for special programs and projects, and overseeing special events such as the Christmas Stroll and Volunteer Tea. This is a wonderful way to meet new people if you have just moved to Whitehall as well as get involved in the many things the Library does.

Despite the rain, we had a nice turnout for the Wellness Walk last Saturday. Connor Snitko won the $25 gift certificate grand prize. Thank you to all the business owners who let us put stations on your front walks and to Jefferson County Public Health. Nurse, Erin Ritchie, brought supplies, gifts, backpacks, and all sorts of freebies to share.

Thank you also to Jess Hegstrom from Lewis & Clark County Public Health who presented our second Teen Mental Health First Aid Class. The Library will be hosting more classes on health issues throughout the year so watch for more information.

Mystery Book Club is moving one week back to May 24 at 5 PM this month as I will be enjoying a visit from my daughter. She will be in the area for an audition, and I am going with her. It is not often I get to hear her sing in person so off we go.

History Book Club is also changing days this month due to Memorial Day. As the Library will be closed on Monday, May 30, it only made sense to move the book club to May 23 at 6 PM. They are reading any historical fiction book this month so if you have been wanting to come, this is the time to join.

Storytime will host Deanna Mydland this Friday at 10:30 AM. If you have not had a chance to bring your preschooler to one of her storytimes, this is the week. Deanna always has themes, centers, food, and fun to share with all of those under 1 st grade.

If you see some new faces at the Library, we have added new volunteers and two new staff members. We want to welcome Hope Shockley and Beth Perdue to our merry band of Library staffers. Be sure to stop by and say hi to them!
