Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 5/25/2022

Happy Memorial Day to everyone! As usual, the Library will be closed on Monday, May 30, for the holiday. We will be open the rest of the week for the usual hours.

Summer Reading sign-up will begin June 6 for “Oceans of Possibilities.” The program will run until the last Friday in July and is open to anyone from birth to adulthood.

This year we will also be holding a summer feeding program for children in the area. There is no fee but if you would like to bring your children or send them to the Library for a free lunch and are not already registered for the 21st Century Summer Program, please call us so we have enough lunches for everyone. We are working on a starting date for the lunch program and will have the final starting date next week. All you need to sign up is a name, phone number, and the number of children you are bringing. With prices rising so rapidly, this is a way for the Library and many other people and agencies to ensure no child goes hungry in Whitehall this summer.

The Holocaust Book Discussion group is headed into another year. We have applied for a second-year Project Democracy grant and will know soon if we have received it. If you are interested in Holocaust history, feel free to join us on the last Thursday of the month at 6 PM. If you are a student between the ages of 13 and 19, please join us for our second democracy project, starting in June. Interested students may contact the Library at 287-3763. The book discussion group is open to anyone, and new members may join at any time.

I am finishing the June calendars so they will be out soon. We are beginning a Dance Exercise class on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 PM. It will be a mixture of dance, yoga, and other types of exercises to help everyone get in shape for the summer. Please let us know if you are interested as space is limited.

Mind Aerobics will begin on Tuesdays starting at 2 PM. on June 7. The class had such a great time with abacus training that Diane is continuing the class through June for anyone wanting to improve their mental acuity. These fun mind games and activities are a great way to keep sharp.

STEM Camp will begin on Thursday, June 9, at 2 PM. This is a great chance for all of you mad scientists to come and explore the universe through experiments and other activities.

The book clubs will meet on their regular days through the summer. We are forming a teen book club with the help of several 4th -8th graders. If you would like to join, please let me know as we are working on a day and time for the summer.
