June 10-13 programs at Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park to Feature Caves, Skulls, Birds

Cave geology, skulls, and birds are the focus of Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park’s speaker series events happening on June 10, 11, and 13.

The park will welcome Stuart Parker on Friday, June 10 at 8 PM at the campground amphitheater. Stuart will discuss the mountain building that occurred in this area and how it influenced the formation of the cave.

Join park ranger Ramona Radonich on Saturday, June 11, at 8 PM. at the campground amphitheater for a closer look at the skulls of several animals that live in the park. It has been said that form follows function, and a study of skulls gives credence to this statement. In this talk, visitors will discover what different forms of skulls can teach about how animals function. Visitors will have the opportunity to look straight up the nose of a bear skull and deep into the eye orbits of a cougar, something that can’t be done easily in the wild. Visitors will also have the opportunity to touch the furs that protect these animals.

Park ranger Radonich will lead “Birds of a Feather”, a birdwatching hike through the park, on June 13. The group will meet at the main visitor center at 9 a.m. for a brief talk, and then they’ll head out to look for birds until 11 a.m. Visitors are invited to come delight in the miracle of life that is birds. These flying wonders are filling the skies of Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park with their colors and songs. Binoculars will be provided for visitors who don’t have their own.

Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park is about 15 miles SE of Whitehall, along MT Hwy 2. For more information about the park and for a full list of events, please visit stateparks.mt.gov/lewis-and-clark-caverns or call 406-287-3541.
