Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 6/29/2022

The Fourth of July is coming up on Monday of next week. This is my reminder to everyone the library will be closed that day but open regular hours the rest of the week. The Summer Feeding Program will serve Tuesday through Thursday that week as our lunch providers will also be closed on the fourth. Children wishing to have lunch with us that week will need to come to the library as there is no 21st Century program from July 4-7.

I had the opportunity to attend the Belfer National Conference for Educators on the Holocaust this week. The conference was completely online from Washington D.C. and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. It was an amazing chance to connect with people from all over the world who are educating young people about the Holocaust in all types of venues: libraries, public schools, private schools, universities, colleges, and more. I was invited due to the educational opportunities our Holocaust Project explored during the last year. We are being considered for a second grant from Humanities Montana to continue and preserve Montana's Holocaust history. If you have a young adult, ages 12-18, who would like to participate in the Holocaust Project this coming year or who would like more information; please contact me at the Library (1-406-287-3763). Our next meeting is Thursday, June 30th at 6 PM.

On a totally different subject, John Moulton will be coming to do a presentation on Antarctica in July. John has traveled around the world, and this will be a great chance to visit a cold climate on a hot night! The program will be on July 26 at 6 PM, so save the date!

I was thinking there are many people in the Whitehall area who have been to different places and might like to share with others. If you have lived or visited someplace interesting and would like to be part of a fall travel series, please contact me at the library. If there are enough travelers out there, we could do a four- or six-week series of programs.

Summer readers are beginning to finish their first reading sheets. The first prize is a free movie pass or $5 worth of snacks at the Star Theater. Don’t forget to bring in your blue sheet to redeem your prize.
