Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Back by popular demand, the Montana Historical Society once again is asking collectors to show off their treasures during special monthly "pop-up" exhibits.
The pop-up exhibits will be held on Second Saturdays this fall – Sept. 10, Oct.8, and Nov. 11 – in the lobby of the Montana Historical Society, 225 No. Roberts in Helena. The MTHS is searching for collectors who want to show off everything from telephones to toys, menus to matchboxes, bonnets to bandanas.
"Last spring's pop-up exhibits were a big hit with our visitors, so we decided to do it again," said Deb Mitchell, MTHS Outreach and Interpretation program specialist.
Each collector will be provided a six-foot table on which to display their collection (or a portion of their collections) and each collector will be asked to write a short exhibit label, explaining what makes their collection special. Space is limited, so sign up as soon as possible.
Collectors will have an opportunity to set up their displays before the pop-up exhibit opens to the public from 1:30 to 3:30 PM.
"We look forward to seeing familiar and new faces at these events," Mitchell said. "We think this is a great way to engage visitors while some of our exhibits are closed to prepare for our big move to the new Heritage Center."
This isn't an Antiques Roadshow type of event, where items are given monetary values by staff. Instead, it's an opportunity to talk to collectors and view their treasures.
Guests are encouraged to enjoy other exhibits at the Montana Historical Society, including the Charles M. Russell collection of paintings, drawings, sketches, sculptures, and letters. The Museum Store also will be open. Gallery and Museum Store hours are 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Saturday.
People can apply to share their collections by contacting Deb Mitchell at dmitchell@mt.gov or 406-444-4789. Space is limited, so early signups are encouraged.
