Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Roy Caldwell, 95

Roy Caldwell, 95, of Mesa, Arizona (formerly of Whitehall, Montana), passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026, after a long, well-lived life.

Born on July 6, 1931, in Jordan, Montana, Roy was a man of many talents. Throughout his long life, he worked as a carpenter, electrician, blackjack dealer, and musician. While he wore many professional hats, music was his true life's passion-second only to his deep love for his family. In the 1970s, Roy and his wife, Phyllis, bought the Borden Hotel and brought their vibrant musical talents to the Whitehall community. Roy was known by all as an exceptionally kind soul who always looked out for those in need.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 76 years, Phyllis; his daughters, Judy (Wayne) Lemrick of Cardwell, MT, and Rita (Bruce) Evans of Richmond, IN; his grandchildren, Tom Loveland, Joe Loveland, Patrick Fernandes, Jody Robertson, and Katie Dahle; and his great-grandchildren, Ben, Ava, Rayne, Taylor, Oliver, and Gus.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, and his son, Steve Caldwell.

At Roy's explicit request, no services will be held. He and Phyllis spent their lives entertaining others with their music, and true to their wit and style, they preferred not to entertain with their deaths.
