Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 11/02/2022

Next week is a strange week for many people. The Library will be open on Monday, closed on Tuesday for Election Day, open on Wednesday and Thursday, then closed on Friday for Veterans Day, and open on Saturday. The book drop is always open so feel free to return things in there as we empty it even when we are closed. Enjoy the time off; I plan to finish some quilting projects!

The Friends of the Library will be meeting on Thursday, November 13th at 5 PM. They will be finishing up plans for the Christmas Stroll and working on winter projects. Anyone may become a Friend, there is no charge, and the Friends help the Library in many different ways. Besides fundraising for our many different programs, they also volunteer for special events, help with book processing, and run the book sale.

We had so much fun with the first Kid’s 3-D Printing class that Raven is willing to teach another session. The classes are free and open to any elementary age student who would like to learn how 3-D Printing works and get to design and print an object to keep. The two-week class will be held on Wednesday, November 9th, and 16th, at 3:30 PM.

I have been watching Magpie Murders on PBS for the last several weeks and really enjoying it.

There are so many types of murder mysteries: classic/traditional, crime, police procedurals/hardboiled, noir, gumshoe/private detective, cozy mysteries, and capers. Each different sub-genre brings out a different interest for the reader. Cozy mysteries are often series which revolve around a small town and the characters in it, while procedurals/hardboiled often involve law enforcement solving the crime from start to finish. The Library has a large collection of mysteries in all sub-genres as they are our most popular checkouts. In addition, we have a Mystery Book Club which meets on the third or fourth Tuesday of the month, depending on the holiday schedule.
