Trojans Head to Districts Basketball in Belgrade

The Whitehall Trojans traveled to Manhattan Christian on Thursday, February 9.

"We were a little outsized and we struggled against their press. We just need to do a better job of taking care of the basketball, said Lady Trojan coach Kelly Nieskens. The Ladies lost 58-36, while the men lost 43-90. The Ladies were led by senior Maxine Hoagland with 15 points. Junior Gavin French led the men with 15.

On Friday, February 10 the Trojans played their last regular season games and celebrated Senior Night. The Ladies came just short of a win 51-49 in a hard-fought game against Townsend.

"The girls put together some good basketball. It was disappointing losing but we are encouraged. We are playing some of our best basketball of the year, " Niesekens said.

The Lady Trojans were led by junior Lindsay Briggs with 21 points and Hoagland with eight. The Trojan men also had a close game, losing 69-63.

District basketball begins Thursday, February 16 in Belgrade. Sixth-seeded Trojan men will play third-seeded Broadwater at 4:30 PM. The sixth-seeded Ladies will play third-seeded Manhattan at 7:30 PM.
