Trojan Teams Take on Academic Olympics

On March 14-15, the Whitehall Schools sent both a middle and high school team to compete at the MSU Academic Olympics in Bozeman.

The WHS Academic Olympic Teams included Andrew Crowe (senior), Leo Scafani (senior), Lindsay Briggs (junior), and Miles McLean (freshman) as Team 1; Nick Denny (senior), Gavin Watson (senior), Isaac Skogen (junior), Ethan Wock (sophomore), and Coya Kelley (freshman) were Team 2.

They competed Wednesday, March 15th. Both teams lost out in the 8th round of the double elimination trivia/academic competition with one team going 4-2 and the other going 2-2. Both teams were in the top 24 out of 45 teams.

The WMS Academic Olympics Teams included Lynzey Ortiz-Rawson (8th), Jack Raty (8th), Lilly Schober (7th), Aurora Koenig (6th), Trevin Stratton (7th), and Kadie Chadwick (8th) as Team 1; as well as Max Fernstrom (7th), Jennene Armstrong (6th), Abby Robeson (8th), Alannah Leonti (8th), Dawson Andrews (8th), Jeanette Blazevich (8th), and Evelinn Scarborough (6th) were Team 2.

They competed Tuesday, March 14th. Team 1 lost out in round 10 after going 2-2. Team 2 made it to round 7 and went 1-2. Team 1 made it to the top 16 out of 48 teams.

Students said that they did better than they anticipated, and they are very proud of the showing they made for Whitehall School.

Coaches Kristen Wirth and Lori Roys were very pleased with the students, as they represented Whitehall schools well, "not only as formidable opponents on the academic front, but in character showing respect and good sportsmanship to their opponents."
