Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Maxine Byler, 93

Maxine Byler, 93, of Sheridan, Montana, passed away on May 10, 2023, at the Tobacco Root Mountains Care Center.

Maxine was born in Corvallis, Oregon on July 26, 1929, the oldest of five children to Ernest and Doris (nee Michaelson) Hunter. She married Gene Byler in 1948, and they spent time in Oregon and British Columbia before moving to Montana. Maxine and Gene had five children of their own and were married for 69 years, until Gene's passing in 2017.

Maxine enjoyed crocheting, knitting, walking, and especially talking! She also enjoyed travels with her family, and it is said that she never met a stranger. On many family trips, Maxine would have to visit the local laundromat, and almost always came home with a list of addresses of the new pen pals she would make. She kept in touch with many of those folks over the years.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, and a son, Jerry. She is survived by her sons, Lonnie Byler and Jim (Dareen) Byler; daughters, Ginger (Steve) Christensen and Jan Cloward; grandchildren, Sandy Byler, Jason (Jessica) Heimark, Tracy Saisbury, Christina (Terril) Ellison, Shannon (Joe) Ashley, Manda (Lalyn) Pruett, Travis (Leann) Byler, Justin (Sharon) Byler, Brandon Byler, Makala Byler, and Nikki (Randy) Meeks; great-grandchildren, Kia, Kree, Taylon, Taylor, Taryn, Roman, Christyan, Germaine, Daniel, Dawson, Trenten, Ethan, Warner, and Finley; and a great-great-grandson, Lincoln.

A Celebration of Maxine and Gene's Lives will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 11 AM at the Whitehall Assembly of God, 6 First Street East, Whitehall, Montana. A luncheon will follow at the church.
