Town Council Off Schedule Meeting Quick and Concise

Due to the Juneteenth holiday on Monday, June 19, the Whitehall Town Council met for their monthly meeting a bit off schedule, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. The meeting was missing its usual reports from the Mayor and outside entities, making for a short meeting, running less than 45 minutes.

The largest item on the agenda for the evening was Town Attorney Ed Guza introducing Sam Martin to serve as Town prosecutor for the next six months, ending December 21, 2023. Guza said that Martin, who has worked with Guza’s office for the last four years, will make a “smooth transition” into his new role in Whitehall.

Also, a “moment of celebration,” as Guza put it - the end of the Janik v Town of Whitehall lawsuit. The Town Council approved the settlement amount, with the Town contributing $20,000 to the overall amount of $100,000.

OTHER ITEMS:

• The Town’s currently tabled Poultry Ordinance was once again tabled, as further comment was needed from those in attendance at the public meeting two months back. Councilman Bill Lanes noted that during his conversations with poultry owners, it was said that the limit of 6 poultry was too low, as most who run poultry currently have a dozen.

• The Recreation Complex Board’s Memorandum of Understanding with the Whitehall Saddle Club was not signed and approved by the Town, as it was not returned in time to submit to the Rec Board. Guza also noted that some edits were still needed. Lanes added that the Town and Rec Board were talking to the WSC about possibly buying them out of the equipment.

• The Town Hall will be closed July 3rd and 4th for the holiday.
