Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 7/5/2023

I don’t know about you, but all this rain has caused a huge influx of birds in my yard. Since my ability to identify birds ranks up there with my cooking talent, we are having a special summer reading program on Wednesday, July 12, at 10:30 AM. The Mystery of Birds will be presented by the newest VISTA volunteer at the Lewis & Clark Caverns, Kenslee Jory. Come and learn all about the different bird varieties in Montana and the Whitehall area.

On July 13th at 2 PM Miss Brandi will be opening up her mad laboratory to explore the secrets of codes. Participants will be making their own secret codes as well as breaking different types of codes. Anyone is welcome to come and join the fun.

The Friends of the Library will be meeting at 5 PM on Thursday, July 13th in the basement. They will be discussing summer reading, future projects, and a new free book program for children. Anyone is welcome to be a Friend by attending the meetings. This is a great group of dedicated Library lovers who spend endless hours helping the staff improve the Library.

The Summer Reading and Feeding programs will continue until July 27th. Anyone can still sign up and read for prizes. We will be opening the prize store on July 27th, but readers may turn in their sheets for the first two prizes at any time.

I want to say a special thank you to all of the volunteers who have driven to Butte every day to pick up lunches for our breakfast and lunch feeding program. A special thank you also to the Library staff and volunteers who are separating the meals for distribution and handing out hot and cold courses on Monday through Thursday. A quick thanks also to our Friends of the Library who are helping to cover the cost of transportation for the summer. Action, Inc., and the wonderful cooks at East Middle School are packing 110 breakfasts and 110 lunches for our children 0-18 years of age here in Whitehall. They are not charging for the service or for the food so our children and their families may enjoy a little less stress on their food budgets. Thank you all for your service.

I am already thinking about and scheduling programs for this fall. If there is a subject or a topic you would like to explore, please stop by the Library, and let me know. There are so many different things to learn and try so it helps us plan the best programming schedule when patrons share their input.
