Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 7/26/2023

This summer is flying by, and I can't believe that Summer Reading ended this week. We will still have prizes from the store available through the middle of August for our readers who are on vacation. It was so much fun to create our own program that we decided to do it again next year. The ability to tailor the programs, themes, and crafts to our readers is a better fit for us than a national program.

Brandi and I met with our friends at the school and set times and themes for Friday morning programming. The four-day school week will be a bit of an adjustment for everyone but I think it will be a great chance for everyone to enjoy the wide variety of programs at the Library. We are planning different activities for ages preschool to 8th grade. Everyone is welcome to any program the Library holds and there is never any charge.

Before I get requests for the September calendar (August is out), the fall schedule will be finished by the third week in August. We are planning toddler, preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, homeschool, public school, and adult programs. All of these need to be confirmed by the program personalities presenting them and that takes a little time. I love that everyone is always so excited to get the new calendars, but I don't want to put one out that is incomplete.

Our last day serving lunches is July 27th. The breakfast/lunch program always runs on the same days as the summer reading program. It has been a huge success again this year and we want to thank the Library staff, Friends of the Library, Action, INC., and the East Middle School cooks for an amazing chance to share meals with the children of Whitehall.

This Thursday, July 27th, we will be hosting Middle Teen Madness at 5 PM for any middle school or high school student who would like to come and eat snacks while playing board games. The last time was so much fun they wanted to do it again so here we go.

History Book Club will meet on Monday, July 31 at 6 PM. This month was reader's choice so it will be a great discussion and exploration of what members chose when left to their own devices. I am in the middle of four historical accounts and can't decide which one I need to finish by Monday. So many books, so little time!
