UPDATE: Bodies Found Identified on Garden Drive

On Sunday, August 27, 2023, at 12:37 PM the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding deceased individuals inside a residence, located on Garden Drive in Boulder. When the responding deputy arrived on scene, he entered the residence and confirmed there were two deceased individuals inside. Based on his observations, the scene was secured, and a criminal investigation began.

This residence was believed to have been abandoned for several years. The property was recently purchased after an individual paid the tax liens that had been placed on the property. The new owner entered the residence and discovered the remains.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence and a search was conducted. Inside, investigators found two decomposed individuals, a male and female in an upstairs bedroom and a firearm next to the deceased. They did not observe any signs of a struggle or any signs of forced entry into the residence.

The two deceased individuals were transported to the Crime Lab located in Missoula for an autopsy. The medical examiner determined the female’s cause of death was homicide and the male’s cause of death was a suicide. The female victim was identified as Ophelia Leffler and the male suspect was identified as David Leffler. Their families have been contacted and do not live in Montana.
