Ledger Looking Back 25 Years: 9/16/1998

SEPTEMBER 16, 1998

Construction began on an expansion project that would nearly double the size of the Whitehall Post Office. The 1,978-foot expansion would extend the post office west, through the back parking lot toward the Whitehall Medical Clinic. The post office would grow from 954 boxes for rent to 1,360. The post office was also redesigned with two entryways located on the north side of the building with access to the front counter, which would be located in the southeast corner of the building, compared to the previous location in the northeast corner.

The old high school gym, located south of the middle school on Main Street, was open for public use. A group of old gym volunteers and exercise enthusiasts agreed to maintain regular hours at the old gym. It was primarily a weight room and did not have a place to play basketball.

Whitehall Student of the Week was Krystin Feight. She was selected for her inspirational creative writing for Communications class. She is being published for the fourth time, having been previously published in "The High School Writer," "The Whitehall Ledger," and "Poetry Anthology." Krystin, a senior, is the daughter of Donna Feight and Larry Feight. She plans to attend college and enjoys soccer and writing.

Whitehall Athlete of the Week was Jamie Reiff. Coach Battaiola selected Jamie for his outstanding play, defensively and offensively, in Friday night football action against Three Forks. Jamie is a senior and the son of Dr. Terry and Carol Ann Reiff. He enjoys sports and skiing and has plans to attend college after graduation.
