Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 10/4/2023

Fall is here and with it come the fall holidays. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for October 9th, as the Library will be closed for Columbus/Indigenous People’s Day. I have one calendar that calls it one thing and another that calls it the other, so I am going with both. We will be open the rest of the week for regular hours.

Next Thursday evening, October 12th, at 6 PM the Library will be hosting a program on the history of the Lewis & Clark Caverns. Our favorite VISTA volunteer, Kenslee Jory, will be sharing all sorts of fun facts and the history of the caverns for everyone in the family. She will also be presenting three special programs for our Friday classes and story times on how caves are made.

The Friends of the Library will be having their monthly meeting on October 12th at 5 PM. With the Christmas Festival coming soon, the book sale, the Volunteer Tea, and other items on the agenda, it will be a busy meeting. If you would like to attend a Friends gathering to find out what they do, feel free to just come to the meeting.

Homeschool Roundup is on Thursday, October 5th, at 2 PM. There are activities for both older and younger students followed by Open Painting at 3 PM. All activities are open to the public and free to attend. If you would like more information about Homeschool Roundup, just call us at 287-3763.

Our basement is always free and open to public gatherings. That said, we are running programs all day on Wednesdays and Fridays for preschoolers and elementary-age children, so the basement is not available on those days before 2 PM. I also want to remind everyone that with so many children coming and going, please be aware of little ones crossing the streets around the Library.

As it gets closer to Christmas, I am enjoying all of the popular authors who will have books out in the next two months. I have books on pre-order by John Sanford, David Rosenfelt, Nelson DeMille, James J. Butcher, John Grisham, Tom Clancy, Nora Roberts, Rhy Bowen, Jeffery Deaver, and more! There will be lots of new reads to snuggle up with as the weather gets colder and everyone wants to hide out.

Question of the Week “Why does my library card suddenly stop working?” The answer could be several reasons but the most common is that it has expired. Our cards need to be renewed once a year on the computer. If your card doesn’t work suddenly, just call the Library and we can renew it over the phone in a minute. The other reasons may be bad address information, overdue or lost books, or incorrect phone numbers. It really helps the staff if patrons let the Library know when they move out of town, get a new phone number, or are leaving the area for somewhere else. This saves staff and patrons lots of frustration!
