The Parent-Teacher Hotline came to Whitehall, which meant parents and community members could dial up school information at any time with a simple local telephone call. The Whitehall Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) spearheaded the effort to bring the hotline to Whitehall schools, and about 65 specific four-digit access numbers were provided for Whitehall parents.

Last Monday, 40 Jefferson County residents made the long drive to the Sweetgrass border crossing to express dissatisfaction over U.S. trade policies and their impact on the price of cattle and Montana's farms and ranches. In a convoy organized by Jefferson County Commissioner and candidate for state Senate, Leonard Wortman, and Whitehall rancher Sonny Huckaba, Jefferson County ranchers and friends joined the border rally on September 21. Six hundred Montanans heard speakers from agriculture, labor, business, and consumer groups talk about how the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has driven the price of cattle and wheat below the cost of production. Behind the speakers, truck after truck of Canadian cattle roared past, illustrating the volume of imported Canadian cattle. After the rally, participants walked onto Interstate 90 and blocked all agricultural products from entering the United States for the rest of the day.
