Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 10/11/2023

October is the month for special programs and the Library is hosting two great local speakers.

On October 12th at 6 PM you are invited to come and hear a history of the Lewis & Clark caves by Kenslee Jory. Then in the vein of local history, Arlene Weber will be here on October 17th at 6 PM to share the history of Whitehall. For those who have lived here their whole lives or new residents alike, these will be great nights to learn about our local history.

The Knitting group has expanded to include anyone who has a handcraft they want to finish or start. Patrons have been working on knitting, latch hook rugs, crocheting, and more. If you would like to meet some new friends and get those projects finished that have sat around all summer as garden and yardwork took precedence, this is a great group to join.

The Friends will be meeting on Thursday, October 12th at 5 PM. They have much to discuss with the Christmas Festival, Volunteer Tea, and Winter Wear Giveaway coming up. If you would like to see what the Friends are up to, please join us for this meeting.

Fall is the time for many people to do some cleaning projects and the Library benefits from many donations during this season. To assist those busy workers, here are a few guidelines when wondering what the Library accepts as donations. Books are always welcome, as are DVDs, with the understanding that if items are already in the collection or are too old to add, they will be placed in the book sale. The funding from the sale is then used for children’s programs, new materials, computers, and more for the Library. We have no room for VHS tapes, cassettes, or pamphlets, on the free shelves or the book sale so please donate those items elsewhere.

We are now accepting gently used coats, new hats and gloves, warm socks, and scarves for the Winter Wear Giveaway. Last year we gave out warm clothing to over 200 children and youth during the Christmas Festival so any donations are welcome. Montana has severe weather and not every family has the clothing they need to fight the cold.

If you have any questions about any Library programs, please just give us a call at 287-3763 or stop by the front desk and we will be happy to answer all your queries.
