Dan Reum, Whitehall Elementary School educator since 1969 and elementary school principal since 1991, was resigning. Reum was also the athletic director of the Whitehall School District. Reum said that in 1995 he traveled to the Philippines for his son's wedding and had an interest in working overseas. He also had an interest in working in Alaska, where another son resides.

The Tri-County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at Rocky Mountain Development Council received an America Reads grant to assist the Whitehall School District in setting up the reading program for children in grades one through three.

This year, for the first time, the Forest Service will allow disabled hunters to hunt in the Porcupine Gulch area, south of Boulder. The Porcupine Gulch Road normally closed during hunting season, will be available for disabled hunters with a Forest Service permit.

Cody Tebay was Whitehall Student of the Week. Cody takes "Student" honors this week for his work in Vocational/Technical class. Tom Wheeler nominated Cody for displaying leadership skills and providing ideas for improvement of the Vo-Tech area. Cody, a senior, is the son of Norman and Michelle Tebay. He plans to attend school to further his education in range management and welding. Cody enjoys hunting and fishing.

Our "Athlete" this week is Jenny Dawson, a member of the WHS cross-country team. Coach Diane Dolan nominated Jenny because "she continues to improve each week. She is one of the top runners on the team." Jenny is the daughter of Anne Marie and Mike Carey. She has plans to attend MSU to study medicine. Jenny enjoys cross country, tennis, gymnastics, wrestling, and photography.

Choir member Jill Hanson is our "creative" person of the week. She was nominated by Mary Brazill, who says, "Jill combines her natural talents with hard work, conscientious behavior, and a willing attitude." Jill is a sophomore and the daughter of Dean and Roselle Hanson. She hopes to major in photojournalism in college. Jill's hobbies are high school rodeo, drama, and photography.
