Between the Stacks: 11/29/2023

The Christmas Festival is around the corner and the Library will host its normal packed schedule of activities and treats. On Saturday, December 9th, the Library will be open from 9 AM to 4 PM and we will begin the day with the Friends Book Sale at 9 AM. Books will be $1 a bag for the day. Children’s crafts will be from 10 AM to 12 PM. Children of all ages may come and create their own colorful Christmas stockings and ornaments. All materials will be provided by the Library.

Then at noon, the Winter Wear Giveaway will begin. Patrons may still donate gloves, hats, scarves, and slightly used coats to share with those in need. There is no paperwork to fill out, just come and select the items needed to guard against the winter weather.

Santa will appear at the Library at 1 PM until 3 PM again this year. Our Santa has been visiting the Library for years and enjoys seeing all the children as they have grown up. Parents are invited to take pictures with Santa and their little ones. Also, from 1 PM to 3 PM, the Friends of the Library will be hosting their annual cookie reception upstairs. Come and have a treat with Santa and learn about the Friends.

Miss Brandi and the homeschoolers will be decorating the Library on Thursday, November 30th, at 2 PM. If you would like to come and help with all of the tree construction, wreath making, light hanging, and more. Come on down and help us turn the Library into a Christmas Wonderland.

Even adults need a little Christmas fun, so we are hosting an adult Christmas crafts afternoon on December 13th from 2:30 PM to 4 PM. All supplies will be provided for a fun afternoon of crafting and socializing! If you would like to come, it would help us with supply ordering to have an approximation of the attendance.

There will be no History Book Club in December as it falls during the holiday week. Mystery Book Club will meet on December 19th at 5 PM as usual. The Holocaust Project will begin meeting in January on the 25th. All book clubs are open to the public and people may drop in at any time.

Question of the week: “What happens when I put a book in the outside book drop?” The book drop is emptied once a day in the morning before the Library opens. The book drop is actually a large box with an inner spring on the inside. When you put books in, they only drop a few inches as the spring goes down as the books fill up the box. When the staff opens the book drop, they place the items in crates so they can be cleaned, checked in, and put on the shelf. If you return a book to the book drop while the Library is open, it will not be taken out until the next morning.
