The Library will be closed on Monday, January 15th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will be open the rest of the week for regular hours. This is the 37th marking of the holiday and falls on Dr. King’s birthday this year. He is best known for his work in non-violent activism during the Civil Rights Movement.

Mystery Book Club meets on January 16th at 5 PM. Mystery Readers are invited to come and share their favorite authors, latest reads, and other fun mystery trivia. The group meets after our Knitting Group, which meets every Tuesday from 1-3 PM. Everyone is invited to bring their favorite craft project to finish and meet some great people who love crafting.

Don’t forget to pick up your Book Bingo Card at the front desk. All ages are invited to play, and the bingo party lasts until April 30th so there is plenty of time to get a blackout! Prizes will be awarded for players’ first two bingos and then cards that finish a blackout will go into a drawing for bigger prizes.

The Kids Quilting Class will meet this Friday, January 12, at 1 PM to begin working on different blocks and learning all the basics to begin a lifetime of quilting fun. Children must be signed up for the class so there are plenty of materials and machines for all. Please call to sign up before Friday.

You may have noticed how much brighter the Library is. We are switching over to LED lights throughout the building and what a difference the new bulbs are making. The picture book room is really much brighter and much easier to read Storytime in.

We still have a few winter hats for adults and children if you need one before the freezing weather hits. Just ask at the front desk and you will have a warm selection to choose from. Remember that 40-45% of body heat is lost through an unprotected head according to the U. S. Army Field Manual.

The monthly Friends of the Library meeting is Thursday, January 11, at 5 PM. The Friends are open to anyone who would like to be involved with volunteering at the Library, fundraising for special projects, hosting events and receptions, working in the book sale, or any of the other myriad of things the Friends do. If you would like more information, stop at the front desk, and ask. There are almost always Friends around volunteering who would be happy to tell you about their organization.
