Ledger Looking Back 25 Years: 1/13/1999

The Whitehall Town Council voted unanimously on January 11th to purchase a 1998 Ford demonstration model ambulance for $66,730, and the vehicle was expected to be in Whitehall within a couple of weeks.

A new adult education class titled Basics of Financial Investing was being offered by the Whitehall school system, and class participants would learn about IRAs, stocks, financial strategies, and other topics from Randy Simkins, an investment representative with Edward Jones in Butte.

Whitehall Student of the Week was senior Amanda Davis. Teacher Terry Kelly nominated her for her efforts in U.S. History class. Amanda is the daughter of Rex and Barbara Davis. She planned to attend college after graduation. Amanda enjoyed riding horses and sports.

Whitehall Athlete of the Week was senior Everett Lanz who had a perfect night shooting against Manhattan Christian and led Whitehall in scoring with 15 points against Philipsburg. Everett was averaging 8.3 ppg and 5.5 rebounds a game and helped the Trojans to fashion a 5-1 record thus far this season. He is the son of Jeff and Dorothy Lanz and plans to attend college next year after graduation.

WHS Creative Leader of the Week was junior Jessica Bell for her efforts in band. Jessica sits first chair clarinet in the band, and band director Jen Cunningham said, "Jessica's interests in her clarinet go beyond the classroom. She studies privately in order to develop her musicianship." Jessica was also our "Student of the Week" last week for excelling in chemistry. She is the daughter of Bruce and Patty Bell.
