Just Ask Georgia: 2/7/2024

Georgia, I have a question,

I’m going to try and make this short. I live in an apartment complex and we do not have assigned parking. I know that I am not entitled to any parking space, but I feel like it’s common decency to not take a spot someone has worked to clear the snow out of. I have had an issue with a neighbor constantly taking the spot I dig my car out of and clear for the past few winters. I confronted them and asked if they wouldn’t take the spot I cleared for myself. They just claim no assigned parking, so first come first serve. So the last few times they have parked in the spot I worked to clear, I clear the spot next to them and pile the snow up and (mostly behind) their vehicle. Which makes them have to dig their car out. I know it’s petty, but am I that wrong in my actions?

Dug Out

Dear Dug,

Not going to lie - I would probably do the same. As long as you aren’t causing physical damage to their vehicle by moving the snow and blocking them, I think this is the perfect way to teach them a lesson.

Georgia, I have a question,

Am I a jerk for giving my daughter ashes from a fire instead of cremating her hamster? Honestly, times are hard. I got a quote for $400 to cremate and I can’t afford it. But I also feel guilty for doing this. Am I wrong?

No Cash for Cremating

Dear Cremating,

While I understand that times are tough and that cremation is expensive, where I disagree with you is your plan to lie to your child. Don’t give them ashes from a fire - instead, tell them that a backyard burial is more suitable for the little hamster. Say a few words, make sure your child is given some closure, and move on. Heck, toss the little guy in the fire with your daughter there and have your own cremation if that is the preferred way.

But, please, do not lie to your child. I can only imagine your daughter holding onto ashes she believes are her beloved pet for years to come - and for someone to accidentally spill the truth. Her anger would be palpable.
