JeffCo Health Department Update

JANUARY SNAPSHOT: The County Health Department’s mission is to promote good health practices, keep the environment clean, healthy, and safe, and to help people enjoy good health and use resources effectively.

The snapshot summarizes recent and year-to-date health department activities of the JCHD. The intent is to share relevant information with our constituents to increase awareness of conditions in the community and department activities.

Reportable Diseases/Conditions of Interest Reported in January:

• COVID-19 Cases- 31 (10 were residents/staff at an LTC facility outbreak)

• Giardia, enteric infection- 1

• Influenza- 44 Cases, including 4 hospitalizations, (Influenza A-39, Influenza B-5)

• Lead, Elevated Blood Level-2

• Syphilis, Latent (Non-resident in the local facility)- 1

Vaccinations Administered in January:

• 72 vaccines were administered to 47 patients. Including, 37 vaccines administered to 22 patients in

coordination with Blue Cross/Blue Shield Care Van.

Environmental Health Activities Conducted in January:

• Septic Permits Issued - 2

• DEQ Submittals (Lifting of Sanitary Restrictions) - 1

• Junk Vehicles Hauled – 3

• Truck Wrecks/Food Involvement– 0

Significant Trainings/Activities Conducted or Participated in during January 2024

• 2 CPR Classes taught in the community to school-age students.

What does community health mean to us as individuals and families? Can we improve it? In the coming weeks, the Jefferson County Health Department will be conducting a Community Health Assessment. A Community Health Assessment is a systematic, data-driven approach to determining the health status, behaviors, and needs of residents in Jefferson County. Information from this assessment will be used to guide our efforts to improve community health and wellness.

The JCHD works with a variety of partners, including schools and the public and private sectors, to protect the health of residents. Activities include investigating reports of communicable diseases and significant health conditions, administering vaccines, ensuring the safe operation of licensed establishments, safe distribution of selected consumer goods, and compliance with environmental regulations.
