JVEMSR Active Shooter Response Training Held Over Weekend at WHS

Jefferson Valley Emergency Medical Services and Rescue were joined by Ruby Valley EMS and Harrison Volunteer Fire Department for a two-day training at the Whitehall High School over the weekend. Over a dozen responders were trained, while another 10-15 volunteered as victims of a shooting within the school. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and Whitehall School nurses were noticeably absent. The training was hosted by JVEMSR and taught by Paradocx.

Paradocx is a company that comes out with former and current Special Forces medics bringing the supplies and the knowledge.

"The goal, for us as EMS, is to better establish our understanding of how we should act in an active shooting situation. Ideally, we would have local law enforcement training with us, but unfortunately, they never got back to me," Chris Rosa said. Rosa did not hear back from the Whitehall Volunteer Fire Department either but notes that a yearly training will happen each year from now on.

The active shooter training puts into practice a full-scale event if one were to happen and practice leadership, care under fire principles, and learn how to set up and run a casualty collection point.
