Just Ask Georgia: 4/10/2024

Georgia, I have a question,

My boyfriend and I enjoy playing harmless pranks on each other. Last week, I had an important job interview, and he thought it would be funny to put a laxative in my drink, which I drank before I left for the meeting. He knew the interview's significance to me - it was my dream job. I had to turn back home while on my way there due to how unwell I felt, and I had to inform the workplace that I couldn’t make it. When he got home from work, I ripped him a new one. He just laughed and said it was retaliation for intentionally giving him pot-laced brownies without his knowledge a few weeks ago, knowing that he gets randomly drug-tested at his job.

My mom thinks I should press charges against him for what he did - what do you think? Should I?

Funny Prankster

Dear Prankster,

Wow...you kind of just glossed over the ENORMOUS wrong you did to him, didn’t you?

Neither of these things are “pranks” and, in my opinion, could actually be considered assault. Not only that but drugging someone - even for a joke - is ILLEGAL! HE should be pressing charges against YOU! What if he HAD been drug tested and then lost his job?

Wow. Just wow. This is an incredibly toxic relationship that should be terminated immediately.

Georgia, I have a question,

Once divorced, do you think the woman must change her last name back to her maiden name? My ex is threatening me with legal action if I don’t. I am a doctor who owns my practice. My practice has my last name (also his last name) in the business's title. I have been established for over 20 years - we recently ended a 26-year marriage. Why should I change my name when it is tied to my livelihood? It will be a total pain. What do you think?

NAMELESS

Dear Nameless,

Honestly, now that you are divorced, I don’t think he has any say about whether you keep it, return to your maiden name, or change your name entirely to DR. QUEEN OF SHEBA! Men, I swear!

Just move on. That name has been yours, at least it sounds like, longer than your maiden name was!
