How to Choose the Right Place to Care for Issues of the Muscles, Bones, and Tendons

Spring is here, and with it comes the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and be more active.

Whether you like hiking, biking, gardening, or playing sports, being physically active can boost your health and mood. However, if you are not careful or prepared, it can also increase your risk of injury.

If you suffer a sprain, strain, fracture, or other orthopedic issue, you don't have to rush to the emergency room and wait. You can get fast and convenient care at an orthopedic walk-in clinic, where you will be seen by a specialist who can diagnose and treat your condition.

“When you get injured, often the first instinct is to go to the emergency room, where you will receive great treatment but likely be referred to an orthopedist for follow-up care,” said Jessica Reissig, DO, Intermountain Health St. James orthopedic surgeon. Our goal is for patients to skip the extra step of the emergency room and come straight to our orthopedic walk-in clinic.”

Because it is a walk-in clinic, the cost of care can be far more affordable than care in the emergency room. Intermountain Health Butte Ortho Walk-In Clinic’s physicians can treat torn ligaments, sprains, broken bones, and other common orthopedic injuries not severe enough to require hospital care.

In the past, Dr. Reissig says she’s had some patients see multiple doctors who do not know where to turn for these types of injuries.

“By offering this type of specialized care as a walk-in service, we can ensure patients can get properly cared for and on the road to recovery faster,” said Dr. Reissig. “If the injury is serious enough to require surgery, we can schedule that without delay.”

The clinic provides complete orthopedic care, with experienced practice providers working together with board-certified orthopedic surgeons. It also has on-site X-rays and can splint, cast, and fix simple lacerations, fractures, and dislocations.
