Just Ask Georgia: 1/1/2025

Georgia, I have a question,

My fiance and I got engaged over Christmas. His brother got engaged over Thanksgiving. We were so happy because we are all good friends and thought going through the same phase of life together would be fun. They got their wedding venue immediately and booked for June 6, 2026. They did not ask us about the date before putting down a deposit or anything for the venue, nor did we expect them to. We had a conversation with them afterward, and we agreed we wouldn’t book for June 2026 out of courtesy to them, so both weddings weren’t in the same month, even though June 2026 was our ideal.

We just found our perfect venue - who was willing to offer us June 8, 2025, for a hugely discounted price. His brother’s fiance told us she is really uncomfortable with our date because it would be too close to her anniversary date (as a reminder, June 6, 2026 is their date, and June 8, 2025 is ours). I thought this was ridiculous because they are a whole year apart, not on the same date, and ideally, we would have liked June 2026, but as a courtesy to them, we decided to do 2025. I think we already went out of our way to be nice to them/accommodate them. Is it that big of a deal that our wedding anniversaries would be so “close” together, even though a year apart?

No More Date Drama

Dear Drama,

Is your future sister-in-law planning on celebrating every anniversary of hers with you for the rest of their lives? I doubt it. She may just be upset that she got engaged first but will be getting married second. She will either get over it or not, but don’t stress about it.

With love, Georgia
