How should the Jefferson County commission spend over half a million dollars locally to ease the economic impacts associated with Golden Sunlight Mine's closure? That question will be answered in the near future because the money is available now.

For close to two decades, Golden Sunlight Mine and other hard rock mines in Montana have been paying a mine licence tax designed to soften the economic blow to communities when mines close or start to phase out operations. Golden Sunlight has paid over $10.3 million in metal mine license taxes since it began mining gold in 1983.
