Just Ask Georgia: 5/21/2025

GEORGIA, I have a question,

My friend tagged me in a radio station contest for four free tickets to a concert (because it said to tag a friend you would bring, not that that is binding or anything). I figured I’d enter, too, and tagged her in return. I ended up winning and was sent my four free tickets!

My friend found out I won and is now asking for her half of the tickets. She suggested we could each pay for one ticket ($28) for ourselves and then use the two free ones for our kids (we each have two children) and make it a fun night out.

I don’t think I should have to pay $38 for a ticket when I have four free ones. I also planned to bring the guy I’m dating, so her idea doesn’t work.

If the roles were reversed, I would NEVER demand half of her prize just for tagging her. I would congratulate her on winning and be happy for her! She is putting me in a really awkward spot—would it be wrong not to share my prize?

I WON, YOU DIDN’T

Dear I WON,

Hmmmm. While tagging someone is not a legally binding contract, when she tagged you, she probably thought, “If I win, I’ll take her!” When you tagged her back, I assume she thought you felt the same way.

In this case, there isn’t a right or wrong, because it’s all about perception. Your decision needs to be based on how strong a friendship you two have.

With love, GEORGIA
