Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 7/2/2025

Happy Independence Day! The Whitehall Community Library will be closed July 4th and 5th, but will be open regular hours the rest of the week surrounding the holiday. The book drop is always open if you need to return items, or have company coming, and want to clean out the house. I am personally sorting fabric before my daughter comes this month, so she has a place to sleep.

There will also be no lunches on the 3rd and 4th of July, as the cooks in Butte are taking a mini-holiday. These ladies cook all year at East Middle School, then spend their summers providing meals for serving centers like ours. I hope they have a great time.

We have had so many children that we are splitting them up by age. The K-2 graders are scheduled to arrive at 9:30 AM, the 3rd-4th graders at 10:15 AM, and the 5th-8th graders at 10:30 AM. If you are not in the 21st Century program and have children of multiple ages, please come at 10:30 AM, as that is our smallest class.

This week we are making kites, so the same schedule applies.

There will be no Storytime or Kids Quilting this week as the Library is closed on Friday. My crazy quilters are making table runners, and they are doing a fantastic job. I hope to encourage all of them to enter their work in the Jefferson or Madison County Fair this year. For their next project, they have decided to make twin-sized denim jean quilts. If you have any old jeans you'd like to donate to the cause, please drop them off at the library.

We are having so much fun with the Reading Rodeo program this summer that we're considering continuing it for the rest of the year. It is an advanced story time for kindergarten through second graders, which includes stories, crafts, subject information, and more. This summer, we are traveling around the world, exploring different flags, foods, crafts, traditions, and folklore.

This week, we are taking a look at Peru and all the wonderful history that accompanies it.

On Wednesday, July 9th, the library is having a Hot Air Balloon day.

Just a heads up that the Magic Show, featuring the Amazing Kyle, will be here on July 16th. He is always a wonderful hour of magic, fun, and tricks galore.
