Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Lucille Buchanan, 93

Lucille Buchanan passed away on August 29, 2025, from natural causes. She was born August 4, 1932, to Francis and Louis Buettner in Butte, Montana, where she grew up and attended school. After graduation, she met Arnold Buchanan on a blind date, and they soon got married.

They had two daughters, Sherry (John) Cargill of Whitehall, and Arlene (Fred) Craft of Firth, Idaho. When the girls were grown and gone, the couple decided to travel with his mining career. They lived in Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico, and even Irian Jaya, Indonesia, for a while. When he retired in 2003, they relocated to Whitehall to be near their family.

Lucille enjoyed her family, friends at the pinochle club, and, during the last couple of years, her extended family at Meadowlark Manor.

Survivors, in addition to her daughters, are grandchildren Scott (Jody) Cargill, Kiela Harris, and Shirley Henderson; great-grandchildren Richie Elshire, Sydney Harris, and Ty Harris; as well as nieces and a nephew.

At her request, there will be no services. Ashes will be spread at a later time.
