Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Taylor S. Olson, 40

Taylor Olson, 40, of Butte, Montana, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Taylor was born on January 26, 1985, in Butte to Merle and Melissa Olson. He graduated from Whitehall High School in 2003 and earned his bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Montana State University in 2008 and his master's degree in Project Engineering and Management from Montana Technological University in 2015, both with honors.

Taylor built an illustrious career at Northwestern Energy, where he applied his natural technical abilities. On November 3, 2018, he married his college sweetheart, Patricia "Patty" Navarro Betancourt, and the two created a beautiful life together filled with laughter, music, and deep love.

Taylor and Patty shared two English bulldogs – Ruby and Pearl – and Taylor was an attentive dog dad.

Taylor was a consummate self-taught musician, having mastered five instruments throughout his life. He enjoyed spending countless hours playing on his own, jamming with friends, and partaking in live music events.

His passion for music was matched only by his love of the outdoors, where he found peace camping under Montana's big sky, biking scenic trails, and spending time boating on the water.

He was particularly proud of his Jeep, which he lovingly maintained and modified, always ready for the next adventure.

One of Taylor's favorite things to do was make people laugh, and he was known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. He was a voracious reader, and his encyclopedic knowledge spanned every subject imaginable. His fascination with history, particularly Egyptian culture, made him a captivating conversationalist who could hold court for hours, sharing interesting anecdotes and tidbits of knowledge. Taylor loved life, people, and most importantly, his family. His generous spirit, brilliant mind, and warm heart touched everyone who knew him.

Taylor is survived by his beloved wife, Patty Olson of Butte, Montana; his adoring parents, Merle and Melissa Olson of Whitehall, Montana; his cherished sister, Michaela Olson of Seattle, Washington, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Margaret Taylor, John Mazzola, Roger Olson, and Darlene Olson.

A celebration of Taylor's life will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 2100 Farragut Ave, Butte, Montana. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Taylor's friend and doctor, Dr. Cole of Big Sky Diagnostic, and Dr. Hueftle of the Community Hospital of Anaconda, as well as all their staff, for the excellent care given to Taylor. In keeping with Taylor's love for animals, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Chelsea Bailey Butte Silver Bow Animal Rescue in lieu of flowers.
