Hello there, it's me, your book. You know, that one that you read last winter, curled up on your couch with your fuzzy slippers, drinking your cup of coffee with French Vanilla creamer. Ah, fond memories!
I have been here, hanging out with all these other wonderful books you have read and are now on your bookshelf, collecting dust. Have you thought about taking us to the Whitehall Community Library? There, we can once again make someone laugh, cry, feel compassion, or have the thrill of discovering "who done it."
If you take your old children's books, we can be the bedtime story that drives mom nuts, as they want it read to them every night because they love it so much.
The wonderful staff will either add us to their collection of great books on their shelves for patrons to check out, or they will take us down to the basement for the book sale. If they add us, we can be enjoyed over and over again, as every patron will have the opportunity to take us home to settle in on their couches, recliners, or back porch deck chairs if it's summertime.
If we join the other books in the sale, we will have twice the impact. First, someone gets to read a budget-friendly book. Hello, 10 cents a paperback and 20 cents a hardback! They could probably find that in the cup holder of their car! They will bring up their newly found treasure, drop their coins in the Friends of the Whitehall Library donation box, and take us home. That, my friend, is only the beginning!
As more and more books are bought and more and more coins are added, the wonderful group, the Friends of the Whitehall Library, will gather those coins and use them to purchase all the supplies needed for the library's wonderful programs for children. I will help purchase markers, crayons, paints, paper, stickers, glue, and other supplies for Storytime.
Those books that have gone before me were used to purchase robotic kits for their growing group of young techies. Cutting mats, rotary cutters, scissors, pins, and seam rippers for the kids' quilting class. They also bought supplies for Miss Brandi's Early Literacy Kits. If you have small children, you should ask her about them!
I hope you will allow us to bring the same joy to others as we have to you. Thanks for your consideration on this matter. Your ever faithful books.
