Get Ready for the Trojan Winter Sports Season

With fall sports wrapping up, student-athletes and coaches at Whitehall High School are turning their focus to the winter sports season. Preseason practices for basketball and wrestling are set to begin around Nov. 20, with teams eager to get started.

TROJAN MEN'S BASKETBALL: Men's basketball, led by Head Coach Tanner Neumann, will begin practice on Nov. 20 as the team prepares for the upcoming season, which opens Dec. 5 with a road game at West Yellowstone. Last season, the Trojans finished 1–15, with their lone victory coming on Dec. 7 against White Sulphur Springs, 61–28. This year, Whitehall will play a 20-game regular-season slate running through Feb. 13, with district tournament play beginning Feb. 25. TROJAN LADIES BASKETBALL: Ladies basketball, led by Head Coach Kelly Nieskens, also opens preseason practice on Nov. 20 as the Trojans prepare for the 2025–26 campaign, aiming to improve on last season’s 3–13 record. Whitehall begins the season Dec. 5 with a road matchup at West Yellowstone. The team will play 20 regular-season games through Feb. 13, with district play starting Feb. 25. TROJAN WRESTLING: The Whitehall wrestling team will open the 2025–26 season Dec. 5–6 at the Cascade Badger Invitational in Cascade. The Trojans return home for duels Dec. 11 against Columbus and North Fremont (ID), followed by the Whitehall Duels Dec. 12–13. They will compete in the CMR Holiday Tournament in Great Falls, Dec. 19–20, before traveling to Bozeman for the Bozeman Tournament, Jan. 2–3. Early January also features the Anaconda Dual on Jan. 5 and the Cut Bank Tournament on Jan. 9–10. The schedule continues with the Choteau Classic Jan. 16–17 and the Townsend Tournament Jan. 23–24. Whitehall will celebrate Senior Night Jan. 29 and later face Manhattan in a dual. The divisional tournament is set for Feb. 13–14 at the Butte Civic Center, with the state tournament Feb. 19–21 at the Billings Metra.
