Ledger Looking Back: December 20, 2000

Rockin' the Rockies gets rocked into court. Rock'n roll will never die, and neither, apparently, will the legal battles between Rockin' the Rockies and Jefferson County. At the same time, Rockin' the Rockies is being hauled into court by county authorities, as it appears a rockin' show at the same concert site is in store for 2001. But the 2001 concert will be called Rockin' the Rivers and will be managed by a new group of concert promoters.

WHS Creative Leader of the Week: JAMIE SCHMIDT. Senior Jamie Schmidt earns honors this week for her work in WHS Drama. Jamie was nominated by drama director Larry Brazill, who selected her because of "her responsible attitude, willingness, and concern for the overall success of her peers." Jamie is the daughter of Kathy Schmidt and Richard Schmidt. She plans to attend MSU and enjoys tennis, hiking, and camping.

WHS Student of the Week: JILL HANSON. Excellent work in art class has earned senior Jill Hanson honors this week. Art teacher Mike Battaiola says, "Jill has worked every day while in class, and her artwork shows it. She's open to suggestions and is a pleasure to have in class." Jill is the daughter of Dean and Roselle Hanson, and she has plans to attend college to major in journalism. She enjoys rodeo, photography, training horses, writing, music, drama, and travel.

WHS Athlete of the Week: BRONSON KIMBERLING. Bronson Kimberling took the 171-pound title at the Deer Lodge wrestling tournament and also took honors this week. Bronson, a senior, was the only Trojan wrestler to win a championship at the Deer Lodge tournament. He won a tough 4-2 decision in the title match. "Bronson beat a tough 4-2 decision in the title match and wrestled a smart match for the full six minutes," said coach Mark Nelson. Bronson was also an all-conference football player.
