Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Don't Miss JVFNRA'S Annual Banquet This Friday

In communities like Whitehall and across Jefferson Valley, organizations that blend local impact with community involvement often stand out. The Jefferson Valley Friends of NRA (JVFNRA) is one such group, quietly working behind the scenes to support youth programs, promote firearm safety education, and strengthen opportunities in the shooting sports across Montana.

At its core, Friends of NRA operates as a charitable foundation, with a clear focus on fundraising to support programs that emphasize safe, responsible firearm use and outdoor education. Importantly, the funds raised stay rooted in community impact. Roughly half of the money raised in Montana stays in Montana, while the other half goes into a national pool that supports similar initiatives nationwide. None of the funds is used for political purposes; instead, they are directed entirely toward charitable efforts.

Locally, those efforts translate into real opportunities, especially for youth. Programs supported by Jefferson Valley Friends of NRA funding include initiatives such as hunter safety education, 4-H Shooting Sports, and youth competitive shooting. Grants also extend to women’s training programs, law enforcement support, and range improvements.

Each year, local volunteers, working alongside a state committee, help review and recommend grant funding for projects across Montana. Notably, a significant portion of grant funding (more than 60 percent) is directed toward youth-focused programs, reinforcing a commitment to education and the next generation of participants in shooting sports.

All of this work culminates in one highly anticipated local event: the annual Friends of NRA Banquet.

Set for Friday, April 10, at the Madison County Fairgrounds Pavilion, the banquet is more than just a fundraiser—it’s an evening designed around fun, community, and shared purpose. Doors open at 6 PM, and attendees can expect a lively atmosphere filled with games, raffles, auctions, and a prime rib dinner catered by Red Apron.

Guests will also have the chance to participate in raffles and drawings, including the popular “Big Shooter” ticket option, which offers a one-in-ten chance to win a firearm. Additional opportunities—such as pre-event raffles and discounted game packages—add to the evening's excitement.

While the event is known for its energy and entertainment, its purpose remains clear: supporting programs that benefit local youth and promote safe, responsible engagement in shooting sports.

With tickets historically selling out each year, organizers encourage those interested to secure their spot early. Whether attending for the food, the fellowship, or the cause, the banquet offers a chance to be part of something that directly impacts the community.

For tickets, sponsorships, or more information, community members can contact any of the local committee members, including Bill Gillespie (406-491-2918), Wendy Forman (406-498-7173), Easton Jones (320-260-3805), Kristi Gillespie (406-533-9069), or Destini Jensen (406-493-2246).

As JVFNRA volunteers continue their work behind the scenes, one message remains front and center: when the community shows up, the benefits reach far beyond a single evening.
