Helen Joyce Kessner, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, in Butte, Montana.
Helen was born on March 10, 1935, in Zurich, Montana, to Anton and Blanch Nelson. She spent her life rooted in strong family values and a deep sense of faith, making her home in Whitehall, where she was a beloved member of the community.
On July 19, 1952, Helen married Kenneth Kessner in Chinook, Montana. Together they shared a lifetime of love and partnership until Kenneth's passing on April 22, 2015.
Helen found joy in life's simple and meaningful moments. She enjoyed needlework, reading, attending church, and especially spending time with her family. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Debbie, Rick (Jennifer), and Brian (Leslie); her grandchildren: Shad, Teah, Darby, Kelsey, and Cody; and her great-grandchildren: Luca, Yara, Abby, Luke, Brady, Jameson, Eliana, Ensley, and Emerson.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents, Anton and Blanch Nelson; her daughter, Kim; her son-in-law, Jerry Mahlum; her daughter-in-law, Laura; and her sisters, Dorothy, Agnes, and brother, Leslie.
Helen will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering devotion to her family, and the quiet strength she carried throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Trinity United Methodist Church (217 W 1st St) in Whitehall. Burial will take place at a later date.
