Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Darlene Olive Beam, 87

Born Darlene Olive McLaughlin, to Olive and Elmer McLaghlin, on February 5, 1939, in Salmon, Idaho. Darlene went to be with our Lord, her husband, Bill, and daughters Kathy and Susan on April 24, 2026.

Darlene was the youngest of four children. At a young age, her family moved to Missoula, Melrose, and Three Forks, Montana. While living in Three Forks, she met the man who would become her husband of nearly 70 years, Bill (William) Russell Beam. They were married on June 18, 1954. Soon they had two beautiful daughters, Kathy Darlene Beam and Susan Carol Beam Johnson.

As a family unit of four, the Beams lived in many places. While Montana was always home, they lived in Washington State, Hawaii, and Utah. They managed to have adventures wherever they lived.

Bill and Darlene lived life to the fullest. Darlene learned to sail in Hawaii, fly airplanes in Utah, and owned her own bejeweled Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

After they returned to Montana, Darlene mastered riding quads in the mountains of their home in Mammoth.

Bill and Darlene bought a small cabin in Mammoth, Montana, where the four of them would spend Christmases and summer vacations. Upon retirement, they moved to Mammoth permanently and eventually built a large home on the same lot as their beloved cabin.

As a full-time Mammoth resident, Darlene became quite the community hostess. Family and friends spent many a celebration, a few weddings, and visits to their home. When they weren't off on a wild adventure, Darlene was a crafter, homemaker, and excellent cook. Last, but not least, she was a good friend to all who entered their home.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Warren McLaughlin and Lyle McLaughlin, her sister Margaret Kimmel, her husband Bill, and her daughters Susan (Michael) Johnson and Kathy Beam. She is survived by her son-in-law, Michael Johnson, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank BeeHive Homes of Butte and Butte Hospice for the excellent and loving care they gave Darlene.

Services will be on Saturday, May 30th, at 1 PM at the Senior Center in Pony, MT.
