This is such an important topic, and with summer reading just around the corner, I thought this was the perfect time to hijack the column.
An Ohio State University study found that kids who have one book read to them daily hear roughly 296,000 words by age five, whereas children who are rarely read to hear roughly 4,600 words. Reading five books a day pushes the count to 1.48 million. As kids grow, reading 15 minutes daily ensures consistent academic gains.
