Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: Week of July 8th

It is lovely to have all the cool weather we have been having. Summer hasn't seemed like summer this year, but it is coming. If you are without air conditioning and the weather is hot, please feel free to come to the Whitehall Community Library (110 W First St., Whitehall) to cool off. You can pick up a lunch for your children, read books or magazines, participate in a program, or just sit on the couches and enjoy the cool air. It will get hot in the coming months, and we want everyone to know they are more than welcome to cool off with us. The library is open until 7 PM on Mondays through Thursdays, so much of the heat will be passed by the time we close.

We had a wonderful gift from our friends at Jefferson Fresh Foods this week. They donated eight cases of snack food to our feeding program! Thank you so much!

For those of you who do not know this, the Library not only has a summer feeding program but also provides snacks for our young patrons year-round. Anyone may donate individually wrapped snacks, such as granola bars, meat sticks, cheese & crackers, etc., to the library, and we will make sure they go to hungry kids who show up at our door.

Our Naughty Knitters have been providing many of the snacks during the year, and the children are always so grateful to have something to munch on!

Summer Reading Wednesday programs for July are Slime Making (July 8th), Sam & Hope Explore the Galaxy (July 15th, Planet Creations (July 22nd), and our Final Party on July 30th. We will be serving lunches until July 31st, from Monday to Thursday.

Brandi and I are finishing the September calendar, and it is packed. Miss Joan will be teaching an intermediate folk painting class; the Senior Planet computer classes will start; all the preschool and elementary school programs will begin; and D&D will start up. Because the fall will be so busy, August will, as usual, be vacation time for most of the staff. Many of our programs will not be running in August, so we can get a good start on preparations for the fall. Check the August calendar to see which of your favorite programs will be going on. September calendars will be out in mid-August, so you can plan all the great programs you want to attend.

Mystery Book Club will meet on Tuesday, July 14th at 5 PM if you would like to come and talk about your favorite sleuths, new releases, or just make some new friends.
