Between the Stacks: Week of July 15th

Can you believe we only have two more weeks of Summer Reading/Feeding left at the Whitehall Community Library (110 W First St - Whitehall)? We still have plenty of great programs, including Planet Making next week on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Wear old clothes as we will be using nail polish to design our planets, and I don't want anyone's best clothes to get a little dab on them. Then, on July 30th at 10:30 AM, will be our end-of-summer reading party. It is always a great time of snacks, prizes, and crafts. The entire basement will be filled with prizes, and everyone who has completed their reading sheets will go downstairs to shop!

August is our month to regroup and finish planning for the fall. Make sure you check the August calendar to make sure your favorite programs are not on vacation until September.

Speaking of September, we have filled the first two Senior Planet computer classes. We will consider adding another if enough people register. If you want to know more or want to make sure you are on the list for fall, please call the Whitehall Community Library at 406-287-3763.

This History Book Club meets on July 27th at 5 PM. This month, we are reading books, fiction or non-fiction, associated with a specific city. I am reading the history of Scotland Yard from the beginning to the present day. It also includes some of their most famous cases and how the police techniques improved over the years. It is a fascinating book, and I will donate it to the library when I finish it for all of you true-crime fans. I have to say, they have dealt with some horrific cases and very clever criminals.

Lunches are here every day from 11 AM to 1 PM. They are free, and there is no paperwork to fill out. This year we have fed 160 children a day, and the response from the children and their parents has been heartwarming. Many families with young children find it difficult to make ends meet with the rise in prices for everything. Thank you to Action, INC in Butte and the wonderful kitchen staff at East Middle School in Butte for providing our lunches free of charge. Thank you also to the many volunteers who have made this program such a success. (Whitehall Community Library - JEANNIE FERRISS)
