So Many Ways to Screw Up Your College Interview is a fast-paced comedy that proves there are countless ways to make a terrible first impression-and every single one of them is absolutely hilarious. Whitehall Theatrics Jr. Division will present this laugh-out-loud 45-minute-long comedy on Friday, July 24th at 5 PM and Sunday, July 26th at 1 PM in the historic Star Theatre. Tickets are $5, and proceeds will help the troupe pay registration fees for the 2027 Montana Thespian Competition in Missoula this upcoming February.
Two exhausted college recruiters (Zoey Lyons and Julia Gill) at an elite university face the biggest challenge of their careers. With only one opening left to fill in the incoming freshman class, they must find the perfect candidate or risk losing their jobs. It sounds simple enough... until the interviewees begin arriving.
Instead of polished, well-prepared students, the recruiters are greeted by wildly eccentric, hopelessly unprepared, and delightfully unhinged high school seniors...and a few a bit older.
Among the applicants are a fame-obsessed reality television star (Palyne Lucas), a self-proclaimed vampire (Caleb Perdue), an overconfident amateur magician (Travis Hughes), and an unforgettable collection of quirky personalities whose interviews spiral into one comedic disaster after another. Other hopeful college attendees include Harlee (Kyra Pedersen) who has Chronoquestimixidous, Maria (Ierlyn Kelley) who can't hold her excitement, Dungary (Max Fernstrom) who LOVES Australia, Gertrude (Pati McLaughlin) who can't wait to party, Eve (Stevie Thieme) who mistakes this university for theatre school, THE CLAW (Archer Yates) who has seen the unjustices at the university and can't wait to fix them, and many more.
As each student confidently demonstrates exactly what not to do during a college interview, audiences are treated to a series of outrageous comedic sketches filled with awkward encounters, ridiculous misunderstandings, physical comedy, and rapid-fire humor. Every interview becomes more absurd than the last, leaving the recruiters questioning not only the applicants-but their own sanity.
This play cleverly blends exaggerated comedy with real-life interview advice, making it entertaining for audiences of all ages while reassuring students that-even if they're nervous about future college interviews-they're almost certainly better prepared than the characters on stage.
Whether you're a student, parent, educator, or simply someone who enjoys laugh-out-loud comedy, this production offers a lighthearted reminder that preparation, honesty, and common sense go a long way... especially when you're trying to make a good first impression.
