Seven hundred years before Paul walked this earth, Isaiah compared God to a potter (cf. Isaiah 29:16). As Paul brought Christ’s message to the Roman Empire, he presented Jesus in an intimate way, in the same tradition. In the United States, this “God with us” has held until the current generation.
