Ernest Nielsen, age 90, a former Glasgow Math teacher, passed away on August 14, 2026, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow. For the last few years, he has been a resident at Valley View Home in Glasgow.
Ernie was born in Butte, Mt on July 12th, 1936, to Willads and Melba Nielsen. He grew up on a farm north of Whitehall, Montana, until age 5. They then moved to Whitehall, where he received his education. After graduation, he attended Montana State University and graduated in 1958. In college, Ernie played the trombone in the symphonic band.
His first teaching job was in Friday Harbor, Washington. He then moved to Glasgow in 1962, where he taught math and chemistry for 24 years and retired in 1986. He developed a love for the outdoors and the hunting opportunities with friends near Glasgow. Ernie continued to live in Glasgow during his retirement and took great pride in his teaching career and the many former students who spoke fondly of him.
Ernie is survived by many friends and cousins who remember him fondly.
A Celebration of Ernie's Life was held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Bell Mortuary. Inurnment followed at Highland Cemetery.
