Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: Week of October 28th

I can hardly believe this Sunday is November 1st and the turning back of the clocks. Everyone keeps telling me how fast this year is going, and I believe it! Winter illnesses are running through the adults as well as the children this week, including the Whitehall Community Library staff (110 W First St - Whitehall). Thank you for your patience as I am rearranging schedules, working at the front desk, and trying to keep programs up and running. Miss Brandi and I are healthy so far, but then we have immunity from working with so many children!

November is the month of closings for all county, state, and federal buildings. We will be closed for Election Day (Nov. 3), Veterans Day (Nov. 11), and Thanksgiving (Nov. 26th and 27th). We will be open regular hours the rest of the week.

This last Saturday, we had 142 patrons return their ballots to the voting officials at the library. It was fun for Miss Brandi to meet so many people who had not been into the library in a long time or had never visited before. They were surprised and pleased at all of the services, materials, and programming that go on here. Thank you, Whitehall, for giving us the funding to make your library a great place!

We also had a great time with all of the students at Cardwell School. They come once a month to check out books, learn information literacy skills, and hear some wonderful new books. It was heartwarming to see so many young people running up to their teachers, all excited about the new books they picked out. Any teacher who would like to bring their classes in may set up a time with us. We do sessions for all grades and educational choices.

This is a great time of year to visit the book sale. We have been weeding the collection in order to make room for all the new books coming in so there are many new selections in the book sale. The paperbacks are ten cents each, and the hardbacks are twenty cents each. There are also DVDs for sale as well as a free book section.

Speaking of new books, I just finished the new Scottish Isle mystery by Lucy Connelly. She has written several wonderful cozy mystery series, but this is my favorite one. If you are looking for a quick read during the cold weather, the library has many of them. Our volunteer in charge of keeping all the mystery lists, marta, is compiling a list for our most popular cozy mystery authors so readers can keep up with all of the different sets.
