SNAP Food Restriction Demonstration Waiver Takes Effect

Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) Director Charlie Brereton today reminded Montanans that the statewide Healthy SNAP Food Restriction Demonstration Waiver will go into effect on Nov. 1, 2026.

Approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Administration (FNA), the demonstration project tests whether restricting specific low-nutrition, high-sugar items encourages healthier shopping patterns and improves long-term health outcomes among Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants.
