Despite some rough weather conditions, the Whitehall High School cross country team had some strong individual performances at last week's MHSA State Meet at the Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena. The Whitehall Town Council voted 4-1 to give Dr. Cory Tebay of Western Veterinary Services a buy/sell agreement with contingencies for the purchase of the ambulance barn located at 207 East Legion. At a special meeting Tuesday night, Whitehall Town Attorney Ed Guza said the offer made by Tebay for the building was $288,000. The Jefferson County Community Foundation awarded nine grants to local non-profits for a total of $18,794 at a special ceremony last Thursday night at the Borden's Building. JVCF Co-Chair Millie Baycroft said this is the most money they have awarded in 16 years, and the endowment fund has grown to just under $235,000. Officials at the Barrick Golden Sunlight Mine discussed three underground projects at last weeks Community Transition Advisory Committee meeting in Whitehall. Mine Environmental Superintendent Chuck Buus said they are currently working with the state to update permits to go underground at the North Area Pit South Area Extension (NASA), and 2B locations at the mine. The Whitehall Town Council will conduct a special meeting Tuesday, October 17 to vote on approval of its 2018-19 fiscal year budget. The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. at Town Hall. In the latest weekly report from the highway patrol, a total of 145 fatalities have taken place in 2017 on Montana roads. The number in 2016 was 152. 25 of the fatalities have taken place in District 3 (Butte) which includes Whitehall and Cardwell. In District 3, there has been 11 fatalities on the interstate, nine on primary roads, one on a rural road, three on secondary roads and one on an urban road. Enrollment numbers continue to rise at the two Whitehall secondary schools. At the Board of Trustees meeting last week, Whitehall 6-12 Principal Hannah Nieskens said the enrollment at the high school is now 139 after recently adding two freshman and a sophomore. Some of the best high school choir members in Southwest Montana came together last Tuesday at a special concert at Whitehall High School. Along with Whitehall, the Regional Honors Choir featured members from Manhattan, Three Forks, Twin Bridges and Sheridan. The staff at the paper has currently started work on the edition and is using this editorial to remind residents and businesses about the publication.
