    A resolution to terminate the buy/sell agreement for the purchase of the Whitehall Ambulance Barn was voted down at a Town Council meeting last week. Resolution 2018-1, which would have terminated the buy/sell agreement with Cory Tebay of Western Veterinary Services for the building located at 207 E. Legion, failed by a 2-3 vote. Council Members Francine Giono Janik and Jason Good voted in favor of the termination. Members Montina Rawson, Gary Housman, and Barbara Gagnon voted against.     It was a record setting weekend at the 16th annual Cori Bishop, Dave McLaughlin, Steve Dyson Memorial Pool Tournament. The tournament had a total of 60 teams in 2018, beating the previous record of 51.     A Whitehall eighth-grader will get the experience of a lifetime later this year when he travels to play basketball in the United Kingdom. Brendan Wagner has been selected to take part in the International NBC Tour and will travel overseas for 11 days in late June. Wagner originally became involved with the NBC (Nothing Beats Commitment) after attending several camps including one last summer in Missoula.   • Grants a boon to Jefferson County

    A recent announcement from Governor Steve Bullock had some positive news for Jefferson County. Three county organizations were among the recipients of $750,000 in grants to develop and enhance tourism and recreation in 27 Montana communities across the state. The grant funds will support $1.8 million of investments into infrastructure and marketing projects. Jefferson County received $14,984 to create a website to promote tourism and recreation.   • Whitehall Chamber receives grant from state of Montana

    The Whitehall Chamber of Commerce recently received huge news when they were informed of a grant from the state of Montana. The chamber will receive a $5,720.50 grant from the Office of Tourism and Business Development.     Going into last week, the Whitehall High School boys basketball team knew they would face a daunting task with road matchups at Anaconda and Jefferson High School.     The influenza season is upon us. According to Montana Department of Health and Human Services (DPHHS), influenza is widespread right now in Montana and most of the US. Over 300 Montanans have been hospitalized this flu season and 18 deaths have been reported, most have been 65 or older. Locally, flu activity has been reported in the north, central and south sections of the county. Jefferson County has had 4 individuals hospitalized with the flu, one of whom has died.     Despite being shorthanded, the Whitehall High School wrestling team was still able to put up a strong showing at last week's Class B/C Duals at Great Falls Central. The Trojans finished the in fourth out of 17 teams at the one-day tournament. Whitehall opened the tournament with a 43-15 win over Simms, and a 36-27 victory over Columbus.     Donald James Bowman died peacefully in his home January 25th, 2018 at the age of 78. Donald was born in Cameron Missouri in 1939. He was the son of Donald and Helen Bowman.
